Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut album, “Let Go,” was the catalyst that had musical critics categorizing this singer as the anti-Britney Spears. Avril Lavigne's albums are armed with attitude, raw talent and an unapologetic realness Avril Lavigne's fans have come to appreciate, and they have propelled the punk rock singer toward the top of musical charts.

Avril Lavigne was born in Ontario, Canada native into a devoutly Christian family. She was signed to the Arista Records label by über-producer Antonia 'L.A.' Reid as a 16-year-old with a talent for writing her own songs. Avril Lavigne's debut CD “Let Go” featured the chart topping singles “Complicated” and “SkaterBoi.” Avril Lavigne distinguished herself from contemporaries by stating in interviews, “I'm gonna dress what's me, I'm gonna act what's me and I'm gonna sing what's me." Her image has a tomboyish appeal sprinkled with some feminine facets.

Avril Lavigne's edgy image has softened since her 2002 debut; gone are the teen angst lyrics of “Let Go.” Avril Lavigne's 2004 sophomore album, “Under My Skin,” was replaced by slightly more mature writing skills. The early albums were decidedly bratty punk-rock songs with guitar melodies and girl-power choruses. These albums are treatises on dysfunctional boy-girl relationships. Avril Lavigne revealed, “each [song] is very personal to me.” “Under My Skin” was a mutual collaboration between Lavigne and fellow Canadian song writer Chantal Kreviazuk.

The slightly matured, new CD from Avril Lavigne is entitled “The Best Damn Thing.” The latest offering from Lavigne is her best attempt at making her new CD fun. It is packed full of the energy fans have come to expect from Avril Lavigne. The first single “Girlfriend” is a dynamic marriage between hip-hop beats and Lavigne's signature power ballads. The unique mix of hand claps and girly choruses has propelled this single to the top of the charts. Avril Lavigne's attempt at having fun is a successful, sophisticated effort.

Avril Lavigne's current promotion of her new CD is taking her all over the world. True to her wild-child image, Lavigne's concerts are displays of her energetic creativity. Unlike past live performances, Lavigne has added backup dancers to concerts in order to blend her newfound maturity and natural ability to steal the show. The current lineup includes live performances on “MTV Latin and Europe Awards” in October, as well as performances on the “World Music Awards” and “American Music Awards” shows. She is also slated to appear on “Dancing with The Stars” on November 20, 2007.

Avril Lavigne is not currently scheduled for any tour dates or concerts, but she is scheduled to appear at the United Against AIDS Concert in Montreal, Quebec on November 28, 2007 for a live performance. Fans of Lavigne can expect future tour dates in the near future. Log onto AvrilLavigne.com, the official website and look for upcoming tour dates and concert tickets.
